Rotherham Street Pastors was launched on Monday 24th May 2010.
Five different churches are already involved and there are other churches committed to backing the project; we already have 13 people of both sexes and all ages signed up and others to follow.
At the launch we shared an amazing buffet, which was put on by Rotherham South Area Assembly Neighbourhoods and Adult Services.
The Revd Canon David Bliss from the Rotherham Minster was there to endorse the initiative.
Steve Parry (Safer Rotherham Partnership Coordinator) Cllr. Jahangir Akhtar (Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Cllr. Rose McNeely (Mayor) (Chair of Sustainable Comm. Scrutiny Panel) Cllr. Peter Wootton (Chair of Licensing) were all at the launch each of which endorsing the initiative; there were also a number of Council Officers in attendance from the Anti Social Behaviour Unit and Environmental Enforcement. With overwhelming support from numerous Counsellors and Council managers, the launch was a very productive night.
Rotherham churches have agreed to come together to bring Street Pastors to our town to make what is already working well in the town centre, even better. We aim to Help, care and spend time listening to people out on the streets.
